You are what you listen to

The knowledge is not locked behind the page anymore. It is sitting in every boring, hands busy stretch of your day, waiting for you to press play.

You already know your mood bends to whatever is in your ears. One song lifts you, another drops you somewhere darker. We accept that completely. What most people never test is what happens when you put something other than music in there.

I was not a reader. I am still not, if I am honest. For years I told myself that meant the ideas in books were just not for me, that reading was something other people were built for. Sitting still with a page felt like work, and I always found a reason to avoid it.

The problem was that back then I needed those ideas more than almost anything. I was in a place I did not want to be. A job that took everything and gave little back. Money I owed and kept not looking at. No real sense of where any of it was heading. The version of me who could have read his way out of that was never going to sit down and read.

What changed it was almost stupidly simple. I stopped trying to read and started to listen. Walking, driving, doing the dishes, folding laundry, all the dead time I had been throwing out every single day, I filled with voices that knew more than I did. Books I would never have sat down with, I finished while doing chores. The empty hours stopped being empty. They turned into the place I did my actual learning.

And slowly it worked on me. Not overnight, nothing does. But idea by idea, walk by walk, the way I saw my own situation started to move. I stopped treating my circumstances as a sentence handed to me and started treating them as something I had a hand in. That shift did not come from one big moment. It came from hundreds of hours I used to waste, finally pointed at something that mattered.

So if you have decided you are not a reader, fine, maybe you are not. That is not the point. The point is the knowledge is not locked behind the page anymore. It is sitting in every boring, hands busy stretch of your day, waiting for you to press play. You are what you listen to. So be careful, and be intentional, about what you let in.

Keep building,
